My Professional Opinion
I'm Dr. X. I cannot reveal my name because of what I'm doing professionally. I put in an application at a major university, but being an atheist does not bode well for one's job opportunity there. Suffice it to say, I have two doctorates: A Ph.D. from Oxford and a Ph.D. from Cambridge. My specialties are: Philosophy of Religion and Epistemology. I am an atheist. My philosophical leanings are:
Metaphysics: Materialist, being a property dualist about minds.
Epistemology: I'm an epistemological realist, being an externalist with regards to the justification debate
Ethics: I believe in objective ethics and ground them in the Ideal Observer.
Using my years of expertise, I have decided to do the blogging world a favour. I'll be listing the good, the bad, and the ugly of atheist blogs. A quick rundown of how I'll do this:
The good: This will be the best of the best. The top 5 atheist blogs around.
The bad: This will be the mediocre of the mediocre. The average of the average. The 5 most average atheist blogs.
The ugly: (If your powers of inference are working then you'd guess that) This is the worst of the worst, the utter dregs. The 5 worst atheist blogs.
Now, to let you in on what I am using to determine these normative judgments. I am basing my decision strictly on intellectual merit. That is to say, the good are the brightest, the bad are average county-folk, and the ugly are, well, your half-wits.
Now for my listing:
The Good:
1. The Secular Outpost.
2. Naturalistic Atheism.
3. The Lippard Blog.
4. Rationally Speaking.
5. Discomfiting Christianity.
The Bad:
1. The Raving Atheist.
2. Steven Carr's Blog.
3. Truth Did (Sam Harris).
4. Kill The Afterlife.
5. Incinerating Presuppositionalism. (This would have made it in "The Ugly" but hey, the guy writes well.)
The Ugly:
1. Goose The Antithesis.
2. Get Busy, Or Get Busy Bloggin'.
3. Edward T. Babinski.
4. Ex-Christian.
5. Debunking Christianity.
